Step 4: Decorate the wall.

  • Place artwork around the TV; could be a gallery wall.

5 Things to know before you buy a table lamp

Blog post-1-Cover Page-5 things to know before you buy a table lamp.png

Before you go shopping to style your interiors with a perfect table lamp, think about what you want to achieve in your space. Do you want to make a statement, bring symmetry, add colour and texture to space?

Here are 5 things to know about table lamps:

Choosing lampshades:

Lampshades come in various shapes such as drum, oval, cylinder, square, tapered Etc. If you're looking to achieve a modern look, drum-shaped has a more streamlined look. Tapered shaped shades are best for a traditional look.

Which lamp base is best for me?

Lamp bases come in different shapes and materials such as ceramic, glass, metal, wood. Choose one that best resonates with the design style in your space.

 Picking the right size:

The last thing you want is to pick a table lamp that looks disproportionate to the scale of the furniture it's placed onto. A large table lamp on a small console table will look odd and vice versa.

 The functionality of table lamps:

Before picking a table lamp decide whether they are used for reading or strictly for aesthetic purposes. Table lamps are great for providing Layered lighting in conjunction with direct lighting. If used as task lighting for reading make sure they are at eye level when you are seated.

  Choosing a light bulb:

Ambient lighting is very important in every room. Typically a dining room has a chandelier and you will need the buffet lamps to provide ambient lighting. A 40 Watts light bulb will be perfect for ambient lighting. But if you're choosing a table lamp for the bedroom or living room you need 60 watts which is good for reading.

Hopefully, these tips will help you in choosing a perfect table lamp/s. If you are looking for lamps under $300, I have some selected pieces just for you! You can click on the one you like and purchase.

Beach inspired dreamy decor for a Basement family room

3D FLOOR PLAN

3D FLOOR PLAN

When my client bought this house, the basement was finished with an 8-foot ceiling. They also had custom built-ins made by previous homeowners. My client loves coastal style and wanted to create a relaxed and energized space for the family, where they can unwind themselves at the end of the day.

Client’s wish list included:

  1. Incorporate Coastal style

  2. Accessorize this space with decor pieces and furnishings

This lovely basement had a great potential for creating a beautiful space but lacked coziness. So we added coastal elements that will create a sense of comfort and coziness. As my clients entertain a lot, we decided on a large sectional, which is perfect for this space to fulfill the purpose. Pillows are great way to freshen up your living or family room. We added pillows with beach theme and colors with a throw to make the room feel cozy and bright.

Recessed lighting and a framed window add to the charm and airy ambiance.

Also to make it feel breezy and light up the space, we recommended sisal rug to brighten up the space as this area had dark laminate flooring. Further we chose a light wood coffee table and a side table. To mimic the beach, we decorated the built-ins with some seaside accessories including seagrass and also beach glass for the ledge. My client had a beautiful painting of the a beach dedicated to Veterans which he really loves and decided to display this beautiful painting.
